The inspiration for Atlantis Sanya's architectural design was drawn from Nan Tian Yi Zhu, a 7-meter high stone in a renowned local scenic zone. The interior design, characterized by the full utilization of marine elements, irregular lines, and picturesque formations, adds a dynamic and futuristic style to the resort. To bring this design to life, ATG used BIM-based Assembly Construction Technology and Stone Slice Splicing Technique, among other advanced methods.
What sets Atlantis Sanya apart from other resorts is its unique ocean-themed design and the challenges that were overcome during its construction. The resort's large scale, high and strict requirements for product positioning, construction quality, safety, fire management, and the complexities of constructing the irregular-shaped building facade and aquarium were some of the major hurdles that ATG successfully navigated.
ATG employed several innovative techniques in the realization of Atlantis Sanya. BIM-based Assembly Construction Technology was used to identify size and angle for connections. The Stone Slice Splicing Technique involved manually bonding stones to aluminum honeycomb panels or granite stones and then cutting them into required plates. Other techniques included creating leaning columns with steel structure and embedded-in luminaries and using revolving doors to partition space in certain areas.
Atlantis Sanya is more than just a resort; it is an integrated service provider offering hotel, entertainment, restaurant, shopping, art performance, logistics, international exhibition, and distinctive marine culture experience. It boasts the world's largest aquarium, which is 18.3 meters high, occupies an area of 2,800 square meters, and houses more than 86,000 kinds of marine animals.
The construction of Atlantis Sanya was a collaborative effort involving several team members, including Cheng Chung, Ken Hu, Deng Jianneng, Li Ke, Liang Zhuobin, Zhang Wuyun, Li Jianguang, Liu Lini, Dai Xiaoming, and Song Weidong. The project, located at No.36 Haitang North Road, Haitang Bay, Sanya 572000, Hainan, China, took 3.5 years to complete, from October 2014 to April 2018.
Atlantis Sanya's innovative design and construction have earned it the Silver A' Engineering, Construction and Infrastructure Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
